Drug Reaction - Gemfibrozil

My Dr prescribed Gemfibrozil (600mg 2x a day) and Simvastin (40mg 1x a day). I am now experiencing muscle pain in my legs, hands and arms. I was taken off these two drugs about four months ago but the pain is getting worse not better. Is it normal for Drs to prescribe these two medication together and at this dosing?
