I think I may have caught and passed on an STD to my girlfriend

By James from San Diego, CA on February 17, 2006 in Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Help! I am 25 years old and have been with my girlfriend for nearly four years, we love each other dearly and have plans of marriage and children as soon as we sort our financial problems out.

Two weeks ago I made the biggest mistake of my to life to date, my girlfriend was away for the weekend and I decided to go out for a few drinks with some friends. We all got drunk and ended going back to a friends house with some girls that we met in a club. One thing lead to another and foolishly I ended up sleeping with one of the girls without wearing protection.

My girlfriend returned and I felt sick with guilt, however I haven't got the gut's to tell her due to the fact that I love her so much and I am certain that she would break up with me if she knew.

Quite selfishly I have resumed my sexual relationship with my girlfriend not having noticed any signs of an STD. Recently she has been going slightly dry during sex and has now found a lump/lumps in her vagina, worried sick that they might be cancerous she had an emergency appointment with the doctor today.

The doctor advised her that he is almost certain that they are not cancerous but they may be some kind of genital wart. He then went on to ask her if either herself or her boyfriend had a sexual relationship with someone else to which she replied no.

She phoned me to tell me the news and asked me if I had been unfaithful to which I again replied no.

She has got to go back to the doctors to have a smear test and then may have to see a gynaecologist to determine the problem.

Now I not only feel guilty about being unfaithfull and lying but I may have also gave her an STD.

Does it sound likely that I have passed a disease on and if so what steps would recommend that I take for both my girlfriend and myself?
