What is wrong with my cat?

My cat is about 12 years old and was a rescued cat when he was around one year old. He has been neutered and declawed. He goes out in the yard periodically where he can meet other cats. He was my sister's cat who went to a nursing home. Last year I took him in. When he came to me, he weighed around 16 pounds and was hard for me to lift, as he is also very large boned. Around two months ago he started eating large quantities of food and drinking more water. He also used the litter box more frequently. He steadily lost weight. He weighed 13 pounds about three weeks ago.
He developed a pearl-shaped cyst on his face, which looked like it had clear fluid. I took him to the vet and he said that we should watch the cyst, but that he could loose his balance if we removed it since it was in the whisker area.
I'd like to know if he might have a disease. It seems as if he is wasting away, even though he eats twice as much (same food) as he did when I first got him. |
