Side effects of Pegylated Interferon

My brother, mom and dad all have hepatitis C, and they are taking pegylated interferon. My mother is having most of the common side effects. However my brother is having alot of trouble with his treatment. He has been to the doctor numerous times and he has a very low white blood count. I was just wanting to know if this is cause for concern or if this is normal. Thank you for your time!
