Busted uterus

Does being pregnant several times increase the chances of your uterus being busted or ruptured? For instance: This lady that I know has been pregnant 7 times (this being the seventh, and all of the other pregnancies were normal for the most part)...She was about 4 months pregnant when she went to the doctor for having complications and they found that she had a ruptured uterus. My question is what causes this? How normal is this in pregnancies? I was wondering how common this is??? She is having a lot of probelms due to this. They put her on complete bed rest...she is not able to do anything.
