Pleurisy : Only one lung or both lungs?

By Peggy Conway from Beaumont, Texas on August 27, 2005 in Pleurisy

I have pleurisy in my right lung. I have not had a chest x-ray as of this date, I am going in on this next Monday for it to be done. I was diagnosed by having all of the symptoms of pleurisy. I have gone through two courses of antibiotics and I still have the pain. The pain is not as severe as it was at first, but now my left lung is beginning to hurt a little. Is it possible for pleurisy to be in both lungs? I thought I had done enough research that shows it to only be in one lung (in most cases). I never read about pleurisy being in both lungs. Can this happen? Is it possible? And if so, how does this happen? Does the infection spread over different organs of the body or just from one lung to the other?
