Feline panting

Sparky is a mixed-breed (orange tabby/Siamese, we think) neutered male kitty, going on 9 months old. He is active and romps with our cocker spaniel.
Lately I have noticed he will lay down and pant. Not necessarily when he has been racing around and it hasn't been particularly hot here. He drinks a lot of water, I don't think he's dehydrated. Is this symptomatic of anything particular? He does kill wild birds that he seems very good at catching in the back yard. |
