Why is my husband losing his hair

my husbend is having hair losses problem. hair is falling lika a patch from a particuler area. it is spreading also. like different areas . my question is why this is happenning and what is its permanent solution ? how serious it is ? he had aslo drugs problem few years back. and he drinks once in a week , amount is 5 peg . plz let me know what is this problem ?
